The Bay One Acts (BOA) Festival is dedicated to supporting, promoting and producing short plays by San Francisco Bay Area playwrights. BOA produces dynamic original short theatrical plays, showcasing adventurous and innovative Bay Area playwrights and small theaters. Below is a promotional video for BOA 9 which explains the focus of the festival.
The Bay One Acts Festival is principally produced by Three Wise Monkeys Theatre Company, a 501 c3 nonprofit arts organization. Three Wise Monkeys was founded by Richard Bernier, Dawson Moore and Aoise Stratford in 2001. Richard Bernier served 3WM as its Executive Director for 9 years and was the vital life force that sustained and nurtured BOA. Richard passed away in October 2010 as after a long struggle with cancer. BOA is dedicated to his life and legacy.
Jessica Holt became the Artistic Director of BOA in August 2009, and she started transforming the landscape of independent theatre making in San Francisco, providing an annual month-long gathering space for artists to create and produce new work, share and swap new ideas and foster new relationships which will grow future collaborations with one another. Sara Staley is taking over as Artistic Director for the 2013 BOA festival. She hopes to continue the exciting momentum the festival has gained the last few years, and support the growth of this dynamic community of theater artists.
